Orange City and Deltona, FL
Do you think that Botox treatments are the sole province of cosmetic surgeons? Think again. The use of dermal fillers such as Botox and Juvederm is becoming more widespread among dentists working at the forefront of the field. At Terry Soule, DDS, your Orange City cosmetic dentist is proud to offer dermal filler treatments as part of our range of available services.
Let’s take a look at both types of dermal filler treatments, and how they are used.
Clinically referred to as Clostridium botulinum bacteria, Botox is a purified protein that is delivered via injection. Once Botox takes effect, it creates the appearance of smoother skin, eliminating visible folds and wrinkles.
Receiving a Botox treatment is convenient; it can be completed in as little as 10 to 15 minutes, and you can resume your normal activities right away with no recovery time. Although the treatment needs of each patient vary, Botox usually can be administered without giving the patient any type of local anesthetic. Any discomfort during or immediately after a Botox treatment can be managed through the application of a cold pack.
Results from a Botox treatment typically last three or four months, although individual results vary.
Juvederm treatments stay effective longer than Botox—up to about six months—but they cost more as a result. Juvederm uses hyaluronic acid to achieve its goals. The acid hydrates the skin, creating a more youthful appearance. Juvederm has been proven especially effective in eliminating signs of aging such as smile lines. Juvederm treatments begin to show visible results right away, with minimal side effects or chance of an allergic reaction.
How your Orange City dentist uses dermal fillers
Since dermal fillers are delivered via injection, and dentists have a great deal of experience in administering injections to the face and mouth as part of their training in dental school, a dentist truly is an ideal medical professional to administer any dermal filler treatment. And yet, only 10 percent of dentists currently offer dermal filler services. Terry Soule, DDS, is proud to be part of that select company. He can use dermal fillers for the same purposes as a plastic surgeon or cosmetic surgeon: to create the appearance of younger, smoother-looking skin.
However, a well-trained dentist like Dr. Soule also could use dermal fillers in any of the following treatment application scenarios:
- As a complement to cosmetic dentistry procedures
- As a means of helping denture patients adjust to wearing their new dentures
- To enhance or plump the appearance of the lips
- Any situation that may involve re-training the muscles of the mouth and face
